How 3D TV works is a fascinating question. There are several techniques and methods to present moving things in a three dimensional or 3D field. Some of them are multi view capture, stereoscopic capture, two dimensions plus the depth. When such techniques are used on a 3D display, a normal television show generally shown in two dimensions on regular television sets can be made to project itself in a realistic field of three dimensions with success. This is the basic definition of the technology called 3D TV. So how 3D TV works?
The earliest method used for showing viewers the fun that is 3D TV was anaglyphic 3D. This method included the use of red and blue glasses. These glasses weighed a bit on the heavier side and all that weight on the nose often made the viewers a bit nauseous. Also this technique had another restriction that the studio or location were the TV show was being shot had to have special colour filters. These filters and the accompanying technological equipment cost quite a fortune. Also the technological expertise and the effort required to set up this equipment was a lot. Finally it was concluded that the time, effort and money being invested in the complete process was not worth the outcome that was being produced. The market as well as the audience rejected the technology and it has become out dated now, as far as mainstream 3D TV is concerned.
The technology for how to use, works and present 3D TV is the stereoscopic option which requires special glasses called shutter glasses. These glasses have a very basic working mechanism ñ they shut off the viewer’s left eye and then the right eye alternately for a fixed amount of time. The TV is programmed to produce separate images directed towards each individual eye. When the brain finally processes the images that enter both the eyes in an alternate manner, it creates a 3D image in the mind of the viewer. This method requires a great deal of synchronization between the 3D TV set [how it works] and the shutter glasses that the viewer uses. This synchronization is achieved using infra red technology or by matching the radio frequencies of both the devices. But there is one slight problem with this technology and scientists all over the world have been trying to improve this aspect. Since the eyes of the viewer get closed and opened very quickly, sometimes lesser light can enter the eyes and that makes the images seem a little darker.

This will make the TV sets compatible with a host of other technological devices and thus the overall experience that the viewer has would reach the next level of entertainment. The frequency at which the motion processing technology works is an important factor and must be given due thought at the development stage. One challenge faced in viewing such TV sets is while viewing dark scenes as there is an issue of non uniform back lighting. The best 3D TV’s never has any such problem. The audio quality is another issue which needs to be looked into. The word technology is being used too often in this decade as it has created a great impact in the way we think and function. We talk about things like computers, gaming and household appliances all the time. There are entertainment applications, as well as convenience and luxury applications of technology. In older days, cinema was a very popular way to relax and it was just as easy as buying a ticket and watching it. It has been about grabbing a tub of popcorn, some drinks and just enjoying the movie. The feeling one gets in a cinema theatre could never be compared to your Television Sets. How could we guess that this could actually change? The technology that we’re talking about is the 3D TV Technology.
This technology has a long history; back in the year 1844 a Scottish inventor started this journey of 3D TV by marking the first step which was the invention of the Stereoscope. It was first of its kind that would enable a camera to take pictures in 3-Dimensional form. Later on in the year 1855 the Kinematoscope was invented which helped movie makers and gave them the freedom to make movies in 3D. This marked the beginning of the 3D TV Technology.
There are in all three ways by which 3D Technology can project Stereoscopic images to the viewer and they are as follows:
* Anaglyphic 3D: one can view 3D images with the help of 2 color glasses. The colors on these 3D glasses are meant to be chromatically opposite and this is the reason why they are only red and cyan. These images are made with two colored layers. Although they are superimposed but in order to produce the depth effect the images are offset.
* Polarization 3D: One can view 3D images with the help of Polarized 3D glasses. In such televisions there are two types of images broadcasted one meant for each eye. The glasses contain a polarized filter which helps in sending the image which is meant for that specific eye.
* Alternate frame sequencing: In this form the rate at which the frames are shown is doubled which means the image that is shown in this television is 48 frames per second. The shutter LCD glasses contain a radio receiver on it which is in control of the transmitter located on the projector thus informing the shutter glasses which eye is meant to be open. This is the latest in 3D TV Technology.

At times there are a few entertaining shows on the TV which you just wish to record and watch them over and over again. It could be any of your favorite show like a match or any comedy show. But there cable services which provide set-top boxes which hosts disk capacities up to 80GB which can used for recording video. Now as technology progressed we saw the birth of the 3D TV, millions have got hooked on it. As any other product if you design a new cell phone the next thing you do is design specific covers and accessories for the same.
Similar is the case with 3D TV Recorders. The need for a recorder was only felt when 3D TV started selling units at unbelievable pace, the market had not estimated so many customers going out of their way to buy a 3D TV. But since there was a TV, now there had to be a recorder for it. A recorder has a specific disk space which records video for a specific number of hours. There is slight difference between a normal 2D recorder and the latest 3D TV Recorders.
A 3D recorder is capable of recording, processing and playing back the videos in 3-Dimensional form. Inside a 3D recorder is present a 2D video streamer which helps storing the processed images on the disk. Then in the processing stage which can also work in the offline mode, these 2D images are converted into 3D. The encoding process in these recorders is much more efficient due to which there is an improvement seen in the video quality of the output. The normal rate of encoding a sequence is 7 megabit per second and 8.5 frames per second.
But the 3D video recorder is capable of recording the video in real time which is more than the normal encoding speed. Thus the processor in work in such a recorder works at a faster pace and even while a video is being recorded one can always continue watching their favorite program. Since the 3D video recorder does its work in real time it has additional features while playback like forward, reverse in various speeds and slow motion. All these features are not found on a normal 2D video recorder. By having a software upgrade of the 3D TV Recorders, one can also make use of effects like freeze and rotate; and arbitrary scaling.
